Meet Diego – A Sunshine Boy Ready for His Happy Ending About Diego Age: Born approx June 2024 Breed: Mixed breed rescue Personality: Happy, soppy, cheerful, and incredibly good-natured Diego’s Story Diego is one of five surviving puppies from a litter of six who were heartbreakingly abandoned on Camposol in August 2024. Left to fend for themselves when far too young and in desperately poor condition, these precious souls were rescued thanks to incredible community support. Tragically, one little pup didn’t survive, but Diego and his siblings were saved from certain harm. The puppies were initially too young for kennels, spending their crucial first 10 days in isolation under the dedicated care of a wonderful lady called Eline. As they grew stronger, most found temporary foster homes before being permanently adopted into loving families. The Heartbreak Diego and his brother Georgie seemed to have found their perfect match when a devoted couple convinced us they would give the boys the best life possible. What followed were months of broken promises – daily visits, outings, and contributions to their care while waiting for a house sale that fell through not once, but twice. In November 2024, they officially adopted both boys, but by December and January 2025, still no home materialised. When Diego developed joint problems needing surgery, they no longer wanted him – discarding him when he needed support most. When the house sale finally completed, Georgie joined them briefly, lasting just three days before being returned for normal puppy behaviour like chewing furniture. Diego’s Journey with Us Since returning to our care, Diego has shown incredible resilience. He underwent surgery to correct his leg issue and recovered like the brave warrior he is. Despite months in kennels, being separated from his brother (who has since found a loving home), and facing crushing disappointment, Diego’s spirit remains unbroken. Our volunteers have watched him maintain his sunny disposition throughout his recovery, spending time in isolation with the dreaded cone of shame, yet still greeting everyone with pure joy and enthusiasm.
