Rescue Guidance

Our Aim

Our main objective is to ensure that every dog suspected of being abandoned, lost and/or injured in the Mazarrón area receive aid and is brought to safety by Noah’s Arc as quickly as possible.

We have put together some guidelines, including the areas we cover and the criteria we follow when providing assistance.

We’d oviously love to help every dog in need, but, as our capacity is restricted, cases that fall within our designated area will be given priority.

In cases where we are unable to take in a dog, we will help and offer advice if needed.

Area we Cover

Our facilities are located just outside of Camposol and we conduct rescues within a 20 kilometre radius from this point.

We have included a map which clearly indicates our boundaries.

For those in need of assistance beyond our area we have provided names of other charities and organisations that may be able to help.

Guidelines

Detailed below are the appropriate contacts if you encounter a dog that appears to be lost, abandoned, sick or injured.

We have also provided an overview of the actions we take once we receive a request for assistance, including our initial efforts to search for and, ideally, reunite the dog with its owner.

Once all avenues to locate the owner have been thoroughly explored, we then do our utmost to find loving, forever homes for all dogs we rescue.

What to do if you find a dog that may have been abandoned or lost and/or injured.

If we don’t answer, leave a message or send a text.

Please do not send a WhatsApp on these numbers as this will not be picked up.

PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BRING DOGS TO OUR KENNELS.

You can also message us on our Facebook page or contact us through our website, however, we strongly recommend you call for a prompt response and avoid delays – our other contact options are not continuously monitored.

Our Response

We will ask for your name, contact number, the location of the dog, size, gender, approximate age, visible injuries, emotional state of the dog (i.e. calm, nervous, aggressive, etc.).

This helps us to know how many people and what equipment we might need to perform a safe rescue.

We really try hard to rescue every dog, but unfortunately sometimes we just aren’t able to, especially when we are full and have no room. In these instances we will do everything we can to help.

When We Arrive

We will respond as quickly as we can.

It is advisable that you stay with the dog and encourage it to remain with you.

DO NOT try to trap it as this may unnerve the dog and cause it to run.

If it seems calm and not scared, we recommend you keep it contained somewhere with you and/or put a lead on it if it has a collar.

If you have access to water, try giving it a drink and something light to eat.

Upon arrival we will take over and make every attempt to contain/catch the dog.

Once we have a safe capture we will take the dog to our vets who will examine them and check for a microchip as well as assessing its health and approximate age.

We will take photos/videos of the dog, including where it was found if possible.

If the dog is microchipped we will contact the owner and hopefully reunite them.

Sadly, many abandoned dogs will not be microchipped. If this is the case, we will take them to the safety of our kennels or to one of our foster carers.

We will then immediately share as many photos/videos as we have along with a description of where they were found and any other information we have managed to gain.

This will be posted to our Website and Facebook page, on local Facebook Groups and other social media platforms.

Continuous Search for Owner

If we can, we will also put up posters in the local area and share on Murcia Today and Pet Alert covering the whole of the region.

We will repeat advertise the rescued dog over the next few days, posting to Facebook Groups further afield.

If after 10 days we have not located the owner we will arrange for the dog to be registered in our name, arrange vaccinations and paying/neutering (if not already).

After this we will look for a forever home for the dog by regularly posting on their progress across our platforms

FAQ

Should I post an abandoned dog that needs rescuing on Facebook?

We monitor activity on local Facebook Groups and our volunteers will often alert our Rescue Team of anything they see of this nature. Where we can (when posts are spotted) we will point the author of the post to where they can seek help.

If I can, should I try to catch the dog that needs to be rescued?

It is often advisable to se up feeding stations and let the dog gain trust and confidence before trying to catch them as the stress of being caught can set them back terribly and cause them to panic and run off, never to be seen again. When too many people become involved, this can also overwhelm and confuse them so we like to keep numbers involved in the rescue to a minimum.
